Color of Law Welcomes Back Alumnus
Posted October 3, 2010
The Color of Law Roundtable Discussion Series hosted its first speaker of the 2010-2011 academic year as Attorney V. Van Johnson III '04 discussed "Career Paths: Real Estate Attorney." Johnson's speech discussed the steps that he took to get to where he is today. As an alumnus of the School of Law, Johnson was able to easily relate to students who were sitting where he once sat before.
Johnson gave students the following advice: "I know it's hard to see it now, but your classmates, hopefully all of them will someday have a specialty and be good at what they do and they are a tremendous resource." He also encouraged students to try to engage themselves with others in the field as "a lot of what happens in law school prepares you to think like a lawyer but there are a lot of things you have to learn once you are out there doing it to actually become a lawyer."
The next Color of Law speaker will be Kathleen A. Brown-Pérez, assistant professor at the University of Massachusetts. Brown-Pérez will speak on October 19 in Room C of the Blake Law Center at 12:00 noon.
