Posted October 5, 2010
The Western New England College Law and Business Center for Advancing Entrepreneurship will host its fifth annual Academic Conference on Friday, October 15 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Blake Law Center. This year’s conference, “Fiduciary Duties in the Closely Held Firm 35 Years After Wilkes v. Springside Nursing Home,” will explore the landmark case and how the law of business organizations has evolved.
The event is designed to bring together scholars and policy makers to explore the significance of Wilkes v. Springside Nursing Home, Inc., a case involving a business in Pittsfield, MA, which developed the concept of a fiduciary duty among the shareholders in closely held corporations. The conference will revisit the Wilkes decision through the eyes of attorneys for both sides, explore the impact of the case, and examine the development of the law since the landmark decision. The conference luncheon will feature a keynote address by the Honorable Francis X. Spina, Associate Justice with the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
Conference registration is $30 (free for students) and includes lunch and refreshments. To register or for more information, contact the Law and Business Center for Advancing Entrepreneurship at 413-796-2030 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
