Posted Sunday, March 27, 2011
Lauren Marcous, a second year law student, was awarded the Haywood Burns Memorial Fellowship for Social and Economic Justice by the National Lawyers Guild.
This summer, Marcous will travel to Boston to work on a project with Prisoners' Legal Services, a non-profit organization that provides post-disposition representation to incarcerated individuals who have civil rights complaints, specifically in the areas of guard brutality, medical/mental health care, extreme conditions of confinement, and segregation. Marcous is one of five law students in the United States to receive this award.
