School of Law Investigates Rule of Law in Rural Southwest China

The School of Law hosted Wenqiang Yan for a talk titled "They Are Your Laws, Not Ours: Rule of Law in Rural Southwest China" on April 12. Yan is a professor at Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUPL) in Chongqing, China, and is currently a visiting professor at Harvard University. His lecture examined the life of rural Chinese people by reviewing the process of their disputes and settlement based on fieldwork and interpreting all their words, actions, strategies, and choices. He also investigated and analyzed all the details of an extended case in an attempt to examine the reality of social life after the great changes including both the political movement and market economy.
