School of Law to Hold Commencement May 19

Massachusetts SJC Justice Barbara Lenk to Deliver Keynote Address
Western New England University School of Law will hold its 2012 Commencement on Saturday, May 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Springfield Symphony Hall in downtown Springfield. The ceremonies will include the awarding of approximately 200 Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees.
Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Associate Justice Barbara A. Lenk will serve as keynote speaker and receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree. Lenk was appointed to the state’s highest court in 2011 by Governor Deval Patrick. Prior to joining the Supreme Judicial Court, Lenk served for 16 years on the Massachusetts Appeals Court and as a Superior Court judge.
Born in Queens, NY, Lenk received a BA magna cum laude from Fordham University, a PhD in philosophy from Yale University, and a JD from Harvard Law School. She went on to join the Boston law firm of Brown, Rudnick, Freed & Gesmer, where her practice focused on civil litigation, with a specialty in First Amendment issues.
Lenk currently serves as a member of the Boston Inn of Court and as a trustee of Western New England University, where she chairs the academic affairs committee.
