Catherine Ady-Bell Receives National and State Fellowships

Posted Saturday, May 4, 2013

Catherine Ady-Bell, a second year law student, recently received two fellowships, one national and one state-wide, for the work she will be doing this summer. The fellowships, which total $8,000, will help Ady-Bell work with Community Legal Aid, a civil legal aid program that provides free legal services to low-income and elderly families and individuals in central and western Massachusetts, and No One Leaves, an anti-foreclosure housing rights group.

Ady-Bell was one of five students nationwide to receive the National Lawyers Guild Haywood Burns Fellowship and one of six to receive the Massachusetts Bar Foundation Fellowship. The National Lawyers Guild Haywood Burns Fellowship is designed to encourage students to apply their talents and skills to find creative ways to use the law to advance justice. Those selected are encouraged to question traditional notions of how one must practice law by affording them the opportunity to participate in a summer experience that will enrich and challenge them. The Massachusetts Bar Foundation Fellowship encourages careers in the law that further the goals of social justice while contributing valuable legal support to organizations serving the under-represented in Massachusetts.
