Posted Monday, October 7, 2013

Western New England University School of Law’s Clason Speaker Series will host a talk by Karl Coplan on Monday, October 16 at 12:00 noon in the Blake Law Center Commons. The talk, entitled “The Climate Activism Model: Civil Rights, Prohibition, or Abolition,” is free and open to the public.

coplan_karl_clason_speaker13jpgCoplan’s talk will address how today’s climate activist model resembles other significant social movements like temperance, prohibition, and civil rights, and whether the movement to shift to a carbon-free economy might best resemble the movement to abolish slavery.

Coplan is a professor of law at Pace Law School and codirector of its Environmental Litigation Clinic. Recent writings include chapters on citizen suits in Environmental Litigation, Law and Strategy as well as takings law in the Handbook on Constitutional Environmental Law.

Now in its 25th year, the Clason Speaker Series hosts expert lecturers to enhance the academic environment at the Western New England University School of Law. The series is named after Charles R. Clason, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives who served as Dean of the School of Law from 1954 to 1970.
