The Center for Gender & Sexuality Studies at Western New England University School of Law hosted a panel discussion on “Profiling, Race and Masculinity: Florida, Massachusetts and Beyond” on September 25. The event took place at the Blake Law Center Commons and featured a panel of experts including Professor of Law Bridgette Baldwin, Community Police Advocate for the Springfield Police Department Charles Youmans, Florida journalist and author of Age of Barbarity Billy Townsend, and Detective within the Narcotics Division at the Montague Police Department Leon Laster.

At this standing-room-only event, speakers discussed race and profiling in the wake of the Trayvon Martin killing and the trial and acquittal of George Zimmerman. The panel made connections between well-known examples of profiling and lesser-known instances closer to home.
