Posted Thursday, May 29, 2014
The Massachusetts Bar Association held its Annual Dinner on May 15 to applaud an array of distinguished recipients for their dedication to the law and to community service. Five lawyers and one law firm were recognized with Access to Justice Awards for their dedication to working with the underrepresented and underprivileged. Among the attorneys honored was Stephen J. Phillips of Longmeadow, who received his Juris Doctorate degree from Western New England University School of Law in 2000. Phillips, a partner with Dunn and Phillips PC in Springfield, received the prestigious Pro Bono Publico Award for his dedicated representation of more than 130 hospice patients at Baystate Visiting Nurse & Hospice. "It's quite a thrill for me to receive this award, from an organization that means so much to me. This award is much bigger than me," Phillips said. "This award is for all the patients, caregivers, dedicated nurses, social workers, volunteers at Baystate VNA & Hospice."
