USA PATRIOT Act: A Selected Bibliography

Updated by

July 2013

The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 (USA PATRIOT Act) is a wide-ranging piece of legislation. Provisions of the Act affect privacy rights and surveillance. The Act has been cited in cases regarding libraries, immigration and border control, financial institutions, penalties for money laundering and other “currency crimes,” readiness for attacks using weapons of mass destruction, infrastructure programs and criminal investigations. This bibliography focuses primarily on libraries and library users, financial institutions, privacy and surveillance and particularly on the impact of Section 215. Although sections of the USA PATRIOT Act have expired due to "sunset" the Act's provisions, the history of the Act and its implications will remain.
