National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)

The NAIC is the largest professional association for state insurance regulators. Information is categorized into Committees of NAIC, Government Relations, and Securities Valuation. The web site offers a clickable map of insurance regulators, allowing easy access to state insurance departments web sites. The site contains Model Laws, drafts of Model Acts and Regulations, newsletters, press releases, abstracts from the Journal of Insurance Regulation, and other publications that contain financial, statistical and regulatory information pertaining to all areas of insurance law. Researchers can also use the NAIC search engine to access all the information NAIC has on a particular subject, including publications available, upcoming meetings, etc. There is also a page dedicated to the information needs of insurance consumers.

Wex: Insurance

This page is a part of the collaborative legal encyclopedia, Wex, published by the Legal Information Institute. It provides an overview of insurance law and links to primary materials. These include the U.S. Code, state statutes, Supreme Court insurance decisions, and U.S. Court of Appeals cases. It also provides links to other internet resources, as well as related articles within Wex.

Insurance Information Institute (III)

This site attempts to answer any question insurance consumers may have regarding insuring home, auto, business, and other belongings, including a glossary of insurance terms. It also provides statistics and current updates on a wide variety of insurance issues, and gives advice on how to save money on insurance costs. Various issues are highlighted on Hot Topics pages, including auto crashes, catastrophes, terrorism, and workers compensation. Also available are links to the financial services industry and the international insurance marketplace. Press releases are available back to 2004.

A.M. Best Company

A.M. Best provides Best Ratings reports on the financial condition of insurance companies all over the country. The rating coverage of the insurance industry includes life, nonlife, reinsurance, title, health care, alternative risk vehicles and Lloyd's. Best also provides special reports on ground-breaking industry trends and their impact on insurance ratings and daily updates on industry news and events. Users can search A.M. Best's extensive database of 6,000 property/casualty, life/health and international insurance companies. This site provides links to insurance associations and government regulators for all the states. Some material, such as the ratings information and the daily email newsletter, Best Day, are available after free registration.
